Use the Static IP Address field
to enter a static IP address for your Node if you want to be able to
address it from anywhere over the Internet. An IP address is a 4-byte number
(e.g., 192.168.0.57) which is used to address an Ethernet Node on a
LAN or WAN. An IP address can be Static or Dynamic. Leave the entry at 0.0.0.0 if you want the IP address to be assigned dynamically by the router for the LAN on which the Node is located, or by the Node itself if there is no router or other DHCP server. Press GO to enter any change. Background: Each Node has an IP address. This is a 4-byte number (e.g., 192.168.0.57) which is used to address Ethernet nodes on a local area network (LAN) or on the Internet (WAN). An IP address can be static and public so that it can be addressed on a WAN and have an associated domain name. It can also be a dynamic address assigned by a router or other DHCP server on a LAN. Such an address is also called a private or local IP address. Our Node-resident firmware automatically discovers the IP address of all Nodes on a LAN or WAN, plus any devices connected to each Server Node via an RS485 bus. |
